8 in '08 number 8

I finished 8 in '08. Number eight was good. I already have a face book account. However, I did enjoy the "shelfari" site and began adding to it already.

Eight in '08 number 7

This was on Wikipedia. I like to use it only to find information I need fast, like an author, or book, etc. It was interesting to learn that there are other types of Wikis. I am not confident to sign up and add any info. though.

8 in 08, exercise 6

I just finished exercise 6, about podcasts and library on demand. I liked the podcast, because you can hear reviews of the books and also authors. It helps to get a better idea about the book. I also liked learning about the Libary on Demand. I feel more confident now explaining to the patrons how it works and I like that it is available.

eight in '08, exercise 5

I have completed exercise 5 for 8 in '08. I signed up for feeds for Fresh Fiction, the Diane Rehm show and All Things Considered (NPR). It is very helpful..it shows what is new and it saves time, especially when I am just looking to see what authors they interviewed and what new books have been added to the list.

4th exercise in 8 in 08

I have completed the fourth exercise for 8 in '08. The first website, Rollyo, was very interesting. However, I still like just using my bookmarks to find the list of websites I use most.
Using Pandora was a lot of fun. I have a varied choice of music genres and it was great to see how they worked off all of them. It will be very helpful in finding similar artists and genres for the patrons.
Webjunction was also interesting. I think it will be helpful with patrons questions. I like all the different ways you can research different topics.
I especially liked the Readers Advisory links, because it is the area in which I need the most practice with. I subscribed to a couple of the digests which will help me in my goal to improve my knowledge about authors and genres.
The image generator was o.k. Fun to mess around with, but I can't see using it too often. Maybe after I have worked here longer I will find more uses for it.

Exercise 3, 8 in '08

I have completed exercise 3 on tagging. It is very useful on amazon and library thing for finding similar genres, authors, styles, etc. for a book.
The tagclouds were impressive. Definitely a look into what is being talked about at the present and popular book titles and authors.
I liked using tags in Flickr also. It will definitely help when looking up images for a certain topic. I put one of my family ancestor's name in and found over 700 pictures of anything tagged with that name.
This was fun exercise.

Eight in "08, second lesson

I have completed the lesson on Flickr and Mashups.
I have opened an account on Flickr and uploaded some photos. I have added one person to my family and friends list and need to add more from my address book.
I also tried Mashup. I combined the words, genealogy and mashup and found a great site where Ancestry.com and Mapquest.com have combined so you can map your ancestors locations.
I am really learning some helpful information.
